End of an Era

After 14 years at the School of Arts Building in Macqaurie Street, it was decommissioned last Saturday. It was a last minute effort by the move team to get it all ready. T

It was one of the best facilities of its kind and the local community made great use of the site over the past 14 years, thousands of people walking through the doors. The local council had provided the building and is not set for other uses.

Here are some shots a little over a week ago of the new studios looking a little more polished off. The technical team are working day and night putting the rest of it together ever since. Sounds tests at 2am, why not!

Also a big thank you to the movers, who have loaded up the new site with all our equipment.

Progress is being made at the new site. So that you can see how things are going, we are holding an OPEN HOUR between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday 25th February 2012 for anyone who wishes to have a look at the progress.

The time will be limited to one hour as there is still a lot to do and for OH&S reasons, work cannot be undertaken when visitors are on the premises. We know that you will understand the limited timeframe.

You are welcome to call in at Suite 201, 161 Bigge Street between 2pm and 3pm.

We are progressing at a cracking pace at the new site, the frames of both studios are up and running. The next steps is to get the cabling and air conditioning arranged. It is much easier to do this when all you have is a frame.

Council approves extension of time

Liverpool Council unanimously approved an extension of time for the station to stay at the School of Arts building until the end of March at tonight’s council meeting.

Liverpool Council is set to consider our request for an extension of time for vacating our current studio complex at the School of Arts building during tonight’s council meeting.

If General Manager’s recommendation is accepted, the station will have an additional six weeks to finalise the fit-out of our new studio complex ensuring the station won’t have any interruptions to the service as we move.

We update the site later tonight / tomorrow with hopefully some good news.

Preparation work continues on site. Last night the internal wall between our new reception and studio areas was taken down. It will be replaced with a soundproof wall once construction begins.

Thank you to everyone who got our last minute call on Thursday to help start with the building process. We got 288 planks, 6 double doors (that were extra heavy) from the Ground Floor to Level 2.

We had 12 people turn up for four hours of some heavy lifting. That a week work in just one morning. We even up to some planking, with real planks!

Stay tuned to the site for updates as the site takes shape over the next couple of weeks. The clock is ticking.

2GLF to purchase a property within Liverpool CBD

Based on a short but comprehensive search of the Liverpool and Fairfield Community the members of the station have decided to purchase a property within the Liverpool central business district to house the station’s studio complex.

Chairman Eddie Diwakar told the Liverpool Leader the purchase of the property would give the station more stability, “The positive is that we won’t get another knock on the door telling us to leave,” he said.

“The building will belong to us and the community.”
